Music video: Mariah Carey drops a brand new video for "All I want for Christmas is you"

Music video: Mariah Carey drops a brand new video for "All I want for Christmas is you" | Random J Pop

Unsurprisingly, but kinda surprisingly (because we already done got that new edit of the original music video over a month ago), Mariah Carey has shot a whole new video for "All I want for Christmas is you". Part of which was unknowingly featured in a Walkers crisps commercial that she shot for the UK. (For my US readers: Walkers crisps is basically the UK equivalent of Lays in the US).

Mariah said 'D'you know what? If we're gonna go H.A.M with this Christmas promo, lemme just shoot a new video. Because I hate some of the angles in that original video. And dahling, have you seen how snatched this body is? [Does a twirl] Shit. I might even give them some choreo.'

I really liked this. Mariah looked great and for Joseph Khan, the CG shots looked really fucking decent. His shit usually looks so damn terrible. This marks the second time that Joseph Khan has directed a music video for Mariah, the first being 2002's "Boy (I need you)" from Charmbracelet, which was one of Mariah's more fun and colourful videos. One which would probably be considered a wee bit problematic now, given the 'Japan as an aesthetic' theme it had going on, along with a bunch of other videos from the early 2000s.

It'd be great if artists giving odl songs new videos was more a thing. Yeah, it costs money. But bigger artists can afford it. And we're slowly entering back into a period where music videos are starting to matter again, with YouTube views towards chart positioning. And we all love a throwback moment.
