Music video: Mariah Carey releases a version of the "All I want for Christmas is you" with mo' festivity and mo' Patricia | Random J Pop

It's that time of year, which means that "All I want for Christmas is you" is 'bout to get played to death like Jesus. I'm not even mad nor hating though. It is a brilliant song regardless of how sick I occasionally get of hearing it. It's also great for Mariah fans, as she's fully accepted her given title as the 'Queen of Christmas' off the back of the songs' continued success and her love of all things 'festive'. So if Mariah has nothing else going on in the way of music on a given year, the Lambily knows that Mariah will always show up for Christmas.

This year is no different, as Mariah has released a Deluxe edition of her first Christmas album, which features the much coveted recording of her live performance at The Cathedral of St. John The Divine and includes songs from her second Christmas album Merry Christmas II you. My ass didn't even bother looking at the tracklist for this Deluxe Christmas album it when its release was announced. So I was surprised that when it popped up on streaming that it had songs from Merry Christmas II you on it. This was a smart move, as that album had some great original songs. It was a really nice album in general, which was unfortunately sidelined between Def Jam's lack of promotion and Mariah being heavily pregnant during its release.

A bitch ain't done though. Because Mariah Carey has also re-released the music video for "All I want for Christmas is you" which features previously unreleased footage from the original shoot. Near enough all of the footage in this new version of the video wasn't featured in the original. And with it being uploaded to YouTube in 2019, it doesn't look as ragged as the original. Although 2009 YouTube compression actually did add to the worn home video vibe.

Mariah really made me watch this whole video and love this damn song all over again.

This newer version of the video is so much better than the original. The additional scenes of her with the kids and her mother were really cute. And to be a complete sap, as a fan it's just nice to see Mariah in a music video just smiling and enjoying herself. Especially now at a time in her life and her career where she seems so genuinely content and happy. Possibly the happiest she's seemed in ever.
