Random J Pop playlist: Mariah Carey featuring... | Random J Pop

I was watching Mariah on Andy Cohen's Watch what happens live (I can't stand that man by the way, but Mariah) and he talked about Mariah's song features and how it'd be cool if she put out an album of them, which I thought was actually a good idea. Especially as Mariah has had some great guest features on remixes of songs which weren't on any of her albums and in some cases, featured on obscure compilations and CD singles. So of course, I ran with that and created a playlist.

Mariah got many of her flowers, deservedly so, during many of the interviews she did in promotion of her album Caution. And something which came up often was that Mariah was one of the pioneers when it came to a then Pop act putting rappers on records to really cross over; which is facts. Nowadays, every damn song has a rapper featured on it. We're getting collaborations between everybody and everyone hopping on everything, all because folk is just trying to secure a bag and get heard, regardless of whether they feel the fit is right or whether it's on brand for them. None of that shit matters, when at one point all of that did. It certainly mattered to Mariah. But here we are. And Mariah played a massive part in that, for better and for worse. Something that oft gets forgotten about.

Mariah was also the queen of ad-libbing and sing around her guest features so that they felt like they were a part of the song and not just dropped into it. The same went with her approaches to including her guest features in her music videos. Mariah had them all up in that bitch. None of this foolishness where artists can't be bothered to try and show up on a set or make a schedule work. And Mariah was always seen in these videos lip syncing to her guest features sections word for word. Bitches nowadays ain't giving the same level of attention and care to their shit.

And when Mariah did remixes and put new features on it, sometimes she'd change the whole entire thing to the point that it was a whole new song. And if she did keep the music on the remix the same, Mariah would often include new vocals. Mariah always came through for her features and made them make sense. Which is why I'mma act like that Stefflon Don remix of "A no no" don't exist.
