Janet Jackson performs her travel bop "Runaway" on Jimmy Fallon and finally releases the song to streaming
With the announcement of a new tour and a new AMSR album, Janet Jackson has been hitting up TV shows to spread the good word. But she did one better when she stopped by Jimmy Fallon, where she also partook in a Classroom instruments performance of her Design of a Decade single "Runaway". A song that Janet hasn't performed often live and a song that was oddly absent from streaming. So it's no coincidence that the performance of this song also came with the news that "Runaway" is now available on all streaming platforms worldwide. So we can finally buss it open at the top of the leaning tower of Pisa.
We all know that Janet mimes a lot of her live shows. So it was nice to hear her sing live and to hear that she still sounds good.
Janet Jackson looked shy as all hell. Such a complete contrast to the woman we've seen do some of the ABSOLUTE most on stage. There's a high likelihood she has social anxiety, something which is more evident in her interview. Janet has always been super shy, but I imagine as time has gone on and she's gotten older that she's become more and more guarded because of the increased press intrusion into her life, her family's life and Michael's life as she became a bigger star. Now she has a child. And with Michael's passing, she's probably incredibly anxious about any question that could come up about any aspect of his life. And no doubt the shift of the public perception of her and the downward turn her career took when her right titty got introduced at the Super Bowl had to have had a huge effect on her. It's a wonder that she still even turns up to any of these shows.
On a slightly adjacent note, somebody on Twitter tried to make a case that Summer Walker (who has been very open about her social anxiety and how she wants to quit music because of it) should deal with her anxiety, because Janet deals with it.
That's not how social anxiety works y'all.
Social anxiety is a spectrum and there's no 'one shoe fits all' approach to it. Some people handle it differently than offers. Some push through it whilst some can't. Janet finding ways to deal with hers and being able to manage it is not a reflection on those who can't. But it's definitely something to admire.
