Rina Sawayama gave us the bop of 2019 and the charts and the general music listening public said 'Y'all hear s'um?' and continued on with their business. Just as they did "STFU!". At this rate, her debut album won't chart or sell enough copies to be certified Paper towel.
But a bitch is still try'an make shit happen and has graced fans with a remix of "Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)", featuring one of the world's most famous Drag queens to not be a RuPauls' Drag Race contestant, Pabllo Vittar; who also has their own flourishing music career and has collaborated with the likes of Major Lazer, Anitta and Charli XCX.
Y'all know I'm here for Rina and support a bitch. But I'm not into this remix at all. The moment it was announced I was dubious, because I love the original so much and just didn't think it needed to be touched. But with the song now having more of a club vibe to it and a feature from Pabllo Vittar, hopefully it will gain traction in the clubs, on radio and have Rina get those streams in Brazil. Pabllo doesn't really add much to the song, and it's a shame there aren't more moments of their vocals together, because he has a nice tone on the song, which could have gone well with Rina's.
It would actually be really cool if Rina pulled a Lil Nas X and killed us all with multiple remixes of this song, but with different artists from sectors that the song touches. A remix with French Pop trio Yelle, because the title is French and they're an act who would suit this type of song. A remix with Hikaru Utada, because she's met her, she also lives in London and Comme Des Garçons is a Japanese fashion brand. In fact, a Japanese version would go down a treat, given that Rina's music is released through Avex in Japan. And then a figure from the world of Vogue to remix it and give it the Ballroom treatment.
The original version of "Comme Des Garçons" shoulda had a music video already and been promoted to death. It's such a good song with such clear hit potential. It's a shame that it's basically gotten no traction anywhere.
