Ayumi Hamasaki has released a digital single titled "Dreamed a Dream", an uptempo Pop number for those who had no time for "Ohia no Ki".
The song is produced by famed Avex songwriter and producer Tetsuya Komuro, most known for Namie Amuro's earlier hits ("Body Feels Exit", "Chase The Chance"), who also famously reunited with Namie once again for the first time in 17 years to record "How Do You Feel Now?" for her farewell fuck it album Finally. A song which was probably a song directed at Ayu going from Avex's number 1 to Namie's Vileda mop.
Ayumi Hamasaki's 12th album Love Songs is also noted for being produced almost entirely by Tetsuya Komuro.
Ayu has so many songs which sound like "Dreamed a Dream". It's difficult to tell if the throwback vibe was the intent given Tetsuya Komuro's involvement, or if it's just a case of business as usual; because Ayu's shit has sounded dated for a good minute now.
I really like the pre-chorus, which should have been the vibe for the entire song. But nope. It devolves into a tired-ass chorus that we've heard in Ayu's songs a million times over.
Komuro's music is not good anymore. So pairing him with Ayu, whose music has been stuck in a rut for the past few years, was just a bad idea.
Ayumi Hamasaki's remix competition from back in May has also been extended to "Dreamed a Dream", with the a capella being made available for fans to do as they wish. There's no grand prize. But if your remix catches Ayu's good ear, then she'll probably re-post it. I have a feeling that Ayu's next Ayu-mix album will feature a couple of the best entries. Or she may dedicate an entire Ayu-mix to fan mixes, which would be really cool. But this is just me speculating.
All remixers have to do to get their remix in the running is to ensure that #ayumix2020 is tagged on whatever platform they post the song.
Check out the #ayumix2020 tag on YouTube to hear the remixes uploaded so far. Many of them sound the same to be honest. Many seem to think 'Remix' just means Generic Dance music.
