Mariah Carey drops "Save The Day". A song about 2020 needing to be saved...that she wrote before 2020. I- | Random J Pop

When Mariah Carey announced her #MC30 thing, we all knew we was gonna get some unreleased shit. I done told y'all for those who didn't know. And now it's been confirmed. Mariah will be releasing an album, The Rarities on October 2nd, which features two discs worth of material.

Memoirs AND an album!? The Lambily are eating real good this year.

Mariah had shared in an interview with Good Morning America that "Save The Day" is a song that she'd started working on years ago. But the real tea here is that Mariah Carey wrote a song about 2020 needing to be saved YEARS before 2020 came and fucked shit up. Professor X and Cerebro could never.

I wonder what Mariah had originally intended for this song to sound like when she wrote it, because the song has two very distinct styles, and the song could work as one or the other. Take out the Fugees sample and "Save The Day" could work as a ballad. But strip out the piano and have the beat from The Fugees' "Killing Me Softly" run through the whole thing, and it's a bop. I'd actually like to hear the former. The sample having Lauryn Hill's vocals in it is so distracting. I don't know what it is about Jermaine Dupri and the way he samples these days. With "A No No" he picked a part of Lil' Kim's "Crush On You" that had the tail end of Lil' Cease saying his name and 'Check it', and it just got annoying when you heard it throughout the song.

HENNYWAY.

"Save The Day" is a really nice song with a very relevant message that we could all use in this hell-mouth that is 2020. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the unreleased material and the forms they will take, and if any of the unreleased material will include remixes.

The Rarities will be released on October 2nd and will feature 14 previously unheard songs in addition to "Save the Day" and the official audio from her 1996 Tokyo Dome performance from her Daydream World Tour, which the Lambs have been wanting FOREVER. A bitch should be releasing that shit on its own, but at least she's releasing it at all.
