Music video: Christina Aguilera releases a new version of "Reflection", with a music video featuring...her reflection | Random J Pop

Christina Aguilera was brought back to sing a new theme "Loyal Brave True" for the live action version of Disney's Mulan, and with it she re-recorded "Reflection".

Now. Christina Aguilera's voice has always been an acquired taste, and many people have things to say about the way she sings, her technique and how she sounds now because of it. And I'm sure some were wondering how good this new version of "Reflection" would sound, but...Christina did a really nice job. This is good shit y'all.

I prefer this version of "Reflection" to the original. The original was nice and better suited to the movie and the character of Mulan given that Christina was only 17 when she recorded it and you can hear the youthfulness in her voice. But there's something about the tone Christina has now which just carries the song better. And then there's big money note that she hits. The original version didn't have such a grand moment, even though back then to the white people involved with the song seemed to thing that lil' thing she did that came and went like a fart was THAT moment. The big note in "Reflection (2020)" was probably edited to sound like it was sustained, but it still sounds good. And even if Christina wasn't able to sustain that note for that long, she got up there to hit it.

Coco Lee, the singer of the Mandarin version of "Reflection", has also released a new version of the song, which is really nice and completely different to Christina's version. It sounds far more like what you'd expect to hear Mulan sing in the film.

The live-action version of Mulan is available on Disney+ as of today for $30 (£19.99 if you're in the UK). But will be free to stream on the Disney+ in December. So I guess I'll be watching Mulan in December.
