Music video: Everglow take us to Sin City with "La Di Da" | Random J Pop

K-Pop sextet Everglow have made their comeback their old school 80s bop "La Di Da". Y'all want a recent point of reference? Think Duolingo's "Physical".

K-Pop is so into voguing right now. We had Tiffany Young give us a lil' sumn with "Run For You Life", Chung-Ha giving it to the gays with "Stay Tonight", and then Irene & Seulgi doing the absolute most with "Naugthy" (Yes, it's tutting heavy, but there's Vogue elements in that shit too). And now here we are, with Everglow giving us duck walks and dips.

K-Pop loves its patchwork song structures and switch-ups. Sometimes a song can do too much and it can work. But sometimes a song can do too much unnecessarily and hamper which would have been a great song if it stuck with one sound. "La Di Da" should have just been a short, sweet, simple 80s throwback bop. It didn't need that switch in the second verse and for its bridge. This shit always hurts songs which have a set period style sound. Mamamoo's "Wanna Be Myself" did the exact same thing. Shit started off as a Disco song and then went Deep House outta nowhere, and it just didn't work and was completely unnecessary.

This patchwork approach also extended to the music video. A range of setups can be really cool, if they're thematically linked (i.e SuperM "100" with its automotive theme). But this shit right here Everglow pulled? It was messy. The Sin City concept looked so damn good and should have been the look for the entire video. But instead we ended up with what looked like 3 different music videos spliced together.
