New girls group Boys World drop their debut song "Girlfriends", serving inclusion and a bop | Random J Pop

If it weren't for K-Pop, there'd be a real shortage of girl groups. There's Little Mix, but they've yet to really make it big globally. And it's like The Pussycat Dolls' attempt at a comeback earlier this year never even happened. But now there is Boys World, who have dropped their debut song "Girlfriend". And y'all. It's a bit of a jam. The music video is a throwback to the early 2000's, and I'm already wanting to know when the album is dropping.

Boys World consists of members Lillian, Makhyli, Queenie, Elana and Olivia - who rose to popularity via...yep you guessed it, TikTok. Their story plays out a lot like a J-Pop / K-Pop group formation. This isn't a tale of girls who were best friends since they were 6 years old and managed by their father or some aunt. Each of the five girls were scouted and selected to be in a group, then flown to California to live in a house together, where they were tasked to bond, and undergo training to hone their skills as dancers, singers and all-round performers before officially debuting an original song. And from the looks of "Girlfriend", it's paid off.

As is clear from the video, Boys World checks the box for diversity, which is a partial reflection of the team around them. Their stylists and team behind the music video? Mostly women of varied shades. Their choreographers? A gay couple.

Inclusion. We love to see it.
