Crystal Kay to release a cover of Official Hige Dandism as the third single from her upcoming covers album
When a press release went out earlier this year, it stated that Crystal Kay's covers album would release in 2020. But here we are mid way through November, and there's still no announcement of the album title or its release date. We will however be getting a third single from the album, following "Sangatsu Kokonoka" and "Utautai no Ballad".
"I Love..." was originally released by for-piece band Official Hige Dandism in January of this year, which shows that this cover album isn't focused on a particular moment in Japanese music history - significantly widening the scope of the covers.Crystal Kay posted a snippet of the song, whose version is a Christmas themed ballad, as opposed to the uptempo un-seasonal original. It's an interesting flip given that the original song sounds a lot more like Crystal Kay's old signature style during the days of Crystal Style, Call Me Miss... and All Yours, and it makes me wish she'd given us a throwback moment. But a Christmas ballad makes complete sense, and I like that the song was completely flipped into something different following two covers which stuck closely to the originals.
As aforementioned there is still no word on when this cover album is going to drop. Crystal has posted a couple of videos and photos recently of herself in the studio, which could be for collaborations or future projects, but could also be for the covers album, which means it may not be done yet or that it's continual changing.
Either way, it's not looking like it's going to release this year, but I could be wrong. We could get an announcement on the day the song drops that the whole thing is dropping the following week. So let us all stay tuned.
Crystal Kay's cover of Official Hige Dandism's "I love...", third digital single from the probably-not-releasing-this-year- cover album will be available on all streaming platforms from December 11.
