Ayumi Hamasaki to release a new song “Mask” on November 18th

A grainy shot of Ayumi Hamasaki with long, straight, chestnut coloured hair. Wearing a black blazer and a silver bejewelled bar for an earring.

Ayumi Hamasaki will be releasing a new song “Mask” in November. It would be great if Ayu became the ambassador for health and illness prevention, and this was the theme song for a nationwide campaign to get everybody to wear their masks, but obviously it won’t be.

Or will it!? *Strokes chin*

No, it won’t.

It’s Ayu. It’ll be a song about putting on a façade or concealing something, which are prominent themes in her music.

Purely based on Ayu’s last three singles (“Summer Again”, “Nonfiction” and “23rd Monster”), I think “Mask” is going to be the same ol’ same ol’. Ayu has been playing it the safest she’s ever played it with these songs, so I’m expecting “Mask” to follow suit. It would be nice to be pleasantly surprised though. I still feel Ayu could release something genuinely great if she and her team just got their damn acts together. But lemme press pause this rant until I have heard the song in full.

Ayumi Hamasaki will be releasing a studio album this year, her first since 2016s M(a)de in Japan, which according to her official website, she is still working on. A bitch better get a move on. We’re half way through October.
