Capsule drop their lil’ 80s vroom vroom jam “Give Me a Ride”

Toshiko and Nakata Yasutaka perform the song “Give Me a Ride” in virtual form. With Toshiko on the mic, Nakata sat at a PC, whilst multiple versions of him play keyboards, drums and guitar.

Kyary and Perfume’s 2021 and 2022 albums respectively were decent on the whole, but were preceded by some...let’s just say questionable single choices. Especially in the case of Perfume. Meanwhile, Capsule’s run of singles in the midst of this was incredibly strong. “Future Wave” was the only song I wasn’t a huge fan of, but even that was a good song. “Hikari no Disco” and “Virtual Freedom” were both stellar. And “Give Me a Ride” might just be the best of the bunch.

“Give Me a Ride” is great. This sound and vibe feels like the off shoot from Perfume’s “Time Warp” that I’ve been wanting since it dropped. Or more-so what “Time Warp” should have been. The vibe on the chorus reminds me so much of the music from the original F-Zero. Gaming has felt like a prevalent theme in the last couple of Capsule music videos, and also goes across quite a few of the songs on Metro Pulse too. But I’ll get into all that when I review the album.

Speaking of which, I really like the branding for Metro Pulse, with Nakata and Toshiko being represented as these 3D avatars, who look like they stepped right outta Virtua Fighter 1. It’d be nice to get a second music video for “Hikari no Disco” which features them too, for consistency. But that won’t happen.
