Kumi Koda has released her 6 track EP Wings, and with it we get a couple of music videos. The days of Avex artists getting budgets to shoot a music video for every song on an album or EP are dead and gone.
Avex gave Kumi Koda a bucket of dirt (the same one they gave Ayu for “Dreamed a Dream”), a green screen, 3 wigs, a PASMO with ¥500 on it, and said ‘Shoot two music videos’.

These videos actually aren’t completely terrible, and I do like that they’re connected. It think it would have been cool to have connected them more, or to just have “Wings” and “Trigger” be one music video, with a cool transition between the two songs, and some interconnected scenes. But Kumi Koda always has to unnecessarily split things.
“Wings” is pretty bog standard song, but I don’t dislike it. And I feel the same about the music video. It’s cute. But that’s it. “Trigger” had some really cool ideas in terms of Kumi having Nightcrawler style powers and also pulling a Morrigan and creating duplicates of herself. There are some really interesting things we could have gotten with that, but Avex didn’t have the money. The song is terrible though. Kumi wants to be a YG girl so bad. And I thought after Heart that we were done with this W Face ~Outside~ foolishness, but I guess not.
“Wings” and “Trigger” are not the type of videos you would watch again, and this is the problem with music videos these days. They have no replay value. Think of how many of Kumi’s older videos that had us rewatching and rewinding. “Juicy” had all the boys running it back.
