Perfume perform “Megu Loop”, “Natural ni Koishite” and “Dream Fighter” on the run up to the cold sleep machine being switched on

Perfume have been hitting up TV shows, giving what will be their last televised performances before Amuse switch on the cold sleep machines, and they freeze Perfume how Wakanda did Bucky at the end of Civil War.

I have to admit, I’ve kinda checked out a bit from Perfume’s promo schedule and appearances ever since their Nebula Romance: Episode Tokyo Dome show. Not just because I had mentally said ‘Right, that’s it’ from that point, but because everything about how this hiatus was announced to how the promo has felt since it has felt kinda raggedy. You can tell that this was not something which was planned in advance and that all of this promo is stuff which was already set, with no changes being made to account for the hiatus news. So it feels unspecific for the most part, with us just getting the obligatory post-album performances of the hero song, which for Nebula Romance: Part 2 is “Megu Loop”.

“Megu Loop” got a music video and is now considered Perfume’s ‘Goodbye, for now’ song in light of the music video and the hiatus announcement which followed it. But it would have been nice for Perfume to have performed other songs from Nebula Romance: Part 2. After all, they should still want to sell copies of Nebula Romance: Part 2 and I don’t think “Megu Loop” is the kind of song to sell an album. “Reebot World” is right there y’all. Given the amount of time between Perfume’s concert and the end of the year when the hiatus starts, we really should have gotten another music video. But the lack of music videos and raggedy rollout of both Nebula Romance albums is a whole other post.

At least Perfume have been performing other songs aside from “Megu Loop”. But, “Natural ni Koishite”!?

I’m always down for “Natural ni Koishite”. But it just didn’t feel like the right song for this staging, this time of the year or the outfits Perfume were wearing. “Moon” would have been a much better choice. They’re in that giant ass Megaleg looking sphere of the Fuji TV building, which looks like a spaceship. It’s a Nebula Romance: Part 2 song. And the dresses Perfume were wearing looked similar to the ones they wore in the music video for “Moon”. C’mon Team Perfume. Tie the shit together. Connect the dots. Create the story. Make it all make sense.

I guess SOMEBODY in Perfume’s team had a similar thought to me, which is ‘We do need to change up these promo appearances to actually be specific to the fact that y’all are going on hiatus’. So we got a performance of “Dream Fighter” (great song choice that you can never go wrong with) to a crowd of Perfume fans decked out in tour merch.

One thing a-chan is gonna do during “Dream Fighter” is cry. But I like that Perfume performed this song in half decent looking outfits. Over time “Dream Fighter” has become ‘the song that Perfume performs in fashionable attire’. I remember them performing “Dream Fighter” in their “Flow” music video look, where Nocchi once again suffered an accessory related wardrobe malfunction.

These performances were fine. But, to be honest — I’m kinda over Perfume still doing stuff, because it feels like this cold sleep shit is dragging out. That Tokyo Dome show really shoulda just been it. It further goes to show that this hiatus was not planned way back in advance. Because if it were, I do believe that everything would have been capped off with the show and that the show would have been in December.

Perfume will be participating in the 76th Kōhaku Uta Gassen, and it has been confirmed that they will be performing “Polyrhythm” and “Megu Loop”.
