Music video: Brandy - Right here (Departed)

The video is rubbish. Sure, it matches the song, but it is so boring to watch. I think a song like this should've had a music video with more impact and gravitas. I think a cool idea would've been to have had the world in some apocalyptic disaster and then have Brandy appear at key moments to sing to a person who is either in danger or isolated.

For example: A subway gets bombed. As the explosion goes off, bullet time kicks in, with Brandy appearing and singing to somebody in the carriage. Then everything goes into real time and the carriage is a wreck and then Brandy reappears to sing to the person from before, trapped in the wrecked carriage for re-assurance.

Or a child is playing basketball on a court and a drive by takes place. As the bullets fly, bullet time kicks in and Brandy sings to the mother of the child across the road from the basketball court. Then everything goes into real time and the child is shot, but still breathing and Brandy sings to them for re-assurance as they both cry.

Cheesy I know, but I think "Right here (Departed)" can be taken on such a deep level that a video that matches real world situations, mixed with cutting edge cinematography and cool special effects would've resonated better than some bullshit video that looks like it was filmed in an empty McDonalds drive thru and a Wal-Mart car park.

  1. I definitely 100% agree about the video. More could have been done with the theme. Having shit like a parking lot be the main location is just retarded! Brandy looks good, and I still love this song though!

  3. LOL. I still can't believe they're out there in a damn parking lot trying to look deep and emotional.

  6. I really liked the video for "Talk about our love". The ginger weave and that pink dress Brandy was rocking at the end of the video looked all kinds of wrong, but the video itself was a decent. "Who is she 2 U" also had a good video. Brandy was trying too hard to work the sexy, but she still looked hot. "U don't know me (Like U used 2)" had a cool concept, but Brandy's over-egged swagger and dancing f**ked it up. She should've left a video like it to Aaliyah.

  7. It seems like Brandy tries too hard in all her videos to work the swagger. I remember the "U Don't Know Me" video, and she was just standing there bouncing and trying to look edgy, and it really wasn't working, lol.
