Music video: Shinichi Osawa, Verbal and Crystal Kay collaborate for "Tayutau"

LnoL featuring Crystal Kay - Tayutau | Random J Pop

LDH seem to be pimping Crystal Kay out for collaborations. But I'm here for anything that will help divert my attention away from how lacklustre her last album was. So, BRING 'EM ON.

LnoL is a collaborative project between Shinichi Osawa, Verbal of M-Flo and classical pianist Yaeko Takemura. The purpose of the project is to create songs based around a classical piano, but with odd twists under the concept of 'Classical but future'. A nice concept, which will surely highlight that classical music and popular music aren't as estranged on paper as they seem, as their worlds collide and meld often. The lead song from the project "Yayutau" features none other than Crystal Kay. An artist who had a popular hit with the song "Konna ni chikaku de..." a song which featured live strings and acted as the theme to the anime adaptation of Nodame cantabile, a story about a classical pianist. Then layer that with the fact that Shinichi Osawa and Verbal of M-Flo have both worked with Crystal Kay before and it's a bit of full circle moment in a sense.

If ya'll thought Hikaru Utada's "Chikai" was difficult to catch the rhythm of, then wait 'til you press play on this. "Tayutau" is a song written in 2 odd measures. There's probably only one point in the song where you can catch a hint of a signature that allows you to rock your head in time. Elsewhere, you're fucked. But there's something captivating about it none-the-less, and I guess that was the whole purpose of the song being constructed in such a way.

It's just nice to hear Crystal's voice on something that hearkens back to her old style. As soon as I heard her voice and knew that Shinichi Osawa was involved, it took me right back to "Lost child", which was when they first collaborated. A song that still remains as one of my favourites from them both.

Crystal Kay looks amazing in this video. I don't know why LDH had Crystal out here with fried blonde hair and wearing pyjama's on album cover when she could've been looking like a sexy grown ass woman the whole time. We possibly have Verbal to thank for this, as the creative director of the LnoL project. It wouldn't surprise me if he and his wife stepped in with their AMBUSH styling heads and gave Crystal this bomb look. She looks amazing.
