Justice for Glitter has been served, as Mariah Carey celebrates its 25th anniversary with a vinyl release

When Glitter mysteriously vanished from streaming back in February, the Lambs had suspected that a potential anniversary release of the album may have been the reason why. And…they were correct. I don’t think the anniversary release was the sole reason. But the lack of speed at getting the album back on streaming was probably because Mariah and her team knew the anniversary release was in the works. So, they may as well just make everybody wait. But now, it’s tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime.

A 25th anniversary edition of Glitter will be releasing exclusively on vinyl on 30th October. It’s crazy to me that there is no cassette version. There really shoulda been.

The 25th anniversary edition of Glitter will feature an additional 15 tracks, which include “Out Here on My Own” and the original “Firecracker” version of “Loverboy” — both of which already got official releases back in 2020 on The Rarities compilation. But it does make sense to include them on the 25th anniversary edition of Glitter, given that they were originally intended for the initial release of the album. There will also be remixes of songs, one of which has been released to tide fans over until 30th October — a remix of “Didn’t Mean to Turn You On” featuring Rochelle Jordan. I’m not super keen on this remix. The beat is hot. The mixing of Mariah’s vocals and Rochelle coming in off key at times? Not so hot. And the lyric video looks so raggedy and unofficial. I mean-

As somebody who always liked the Glitter album, it’s been really great to see the album be vindicated. But if the truth be told, the Lambs generally always liked Glitter. It was the loudness of how bad the film was and the mariah-carey_breakdown.mp3 that ended up swallowing the album. And then there was The Lord of the Wings: The Two Towers. Glitter stood no chance. But what’s been even greater to see, is Mariah finally be in a place where she can celebrate Glitter.

Mariah seeing fans rally for the album in 2018 made her realise that there was a lot of love for it and that she no longer has to act like it doesn’t exist out of shame and thinking for all of those years that fans didn’t like. The fans celebrating Glitter has not only given Mariah permission to do the same, but let her know that there is still an appetite for the album — hence why we now have a 25th anniversary release of it.
