Music video: Friendly Fires pull shapes in the dark for "Silhouettes"

Music video: Friendly Fires pull shapes in the dark for "Silhouettes" | Random J Pop

Friendly Fires are really giving it to their fans on the run up to the release of their new album.

Only last week I posted about the release of a new song and a tour announcement and now we get a music video to a single which was released in June.

This is the third music video that we've gotten from Inflorescent so far and it honestly feels like the first. It's the first video which actually features the band throughout and tonally matches the song.

I've been really disappointed with the music videos that we've gotten from Friendly fires as of late. The music video for "Love like waves" was fucking awful and looked like a boohoo.com commercial. It sucked all of the colour and fun out of what was a great song, and wasn't a good visual representation of Friendly Fires at all. Then there was "Heaven let me in", which wasn't bad, but was kinda 'Meh' for a song that had such a vibe to it. So it's good to FINALLY have a music video which feels fitting for the group and the song.

Ed Macfarlane is known for his dance moves during live shows that have him looking an inflatable tube man, but has only ever danced in one music video ("Kiss of life") if memory serves correctly. So to finally have his dancing committed to a music video, and in choreographed form no less, is long overdue. It's just a shame that some of the shots and cuts are so disorienting, as it's hard to piece together what looks like a fun routine.

The aesthetic is a yes. The execution in places is a no. But on the whole, I do really like this video. It's stylistic. I give it that.

The one thing I can't fault or question is the music, all of which has been great so far. So I'm really looking forward to hearing this album and having it soundtrack my Summer this year.

Between Friendly Fires, Haim and Lana Del Rey about to drop new shit, Carefree white girl Summer is underway ya'll.
