Mariah Carey is inducted into the songwriters hall of fame. Finally. | Random J Pop

In an act that is long overdue, Mariah Carey has FINALLY been inducted into the Songwriters hall of fame.

Mariah Carey joins Rick Nowels, Steve Miller, The Isley Brothers, Eurythmics, producer Rick Nowels, Steve Miller, Euythmics, The Neptunes and William 'Mickey' Stevenson as the 2020 inductees.

Even with all of her successes, THAT voice and be listed in the Guinness book of records, Mariah still has to remind people that she is a songwriter and that she writes all of her own material. Many people still do not know that Mariah has a pen game and that 18 of the 19 number 1 singles that she has were written and / or co-written by her. I mean...

'I didn't realize she was a songwriter.' | Random J Pop

Despite going down in history, there's still alot that the general public don't know about Mariah's craft outside of her being able to do that whistle thing. Her reputation as a diva has precededed everything else, which is a shame. But it's seeming like things are turning a corner and a new generation who perhaps weren't big on Mariah are slowly starting to see that she's the real deal and a bitch has credentials and acumen.

Mariah has many songs and lyrics that I love. But one of my favourites has to be...

I don't think she has anything to do with me.
I mean, my whole thing is singing, writing songs.
And you know, I've been doing this my whole life.
Singing is first and foremost.
It's a God given talent that I'm grateful for.
Her thing is s'um different.

Powerful.

Mariah has had an amazing past couple of years, with a successful comeback album, great press coverage, "All I want for Christmas is you" continuing to become a Christmas fixture and give Mariah her 19th number 1 single, and break a record for the first song to fall out of the Hot 100 from #1 and now this.

This third wind in Mariah's career is great to see. But it also highlights how important it is to give artists the flowers they deserve whilst they are still here and not posthumously. Sometimes we hold artists in higher regard when they pass, because it feels like the right thing to do and not always because we feel they genuinely deserved it. But also, we shouldn't be doing the most for a legacy and only showing appreciation in death. The same goes for everyone. We're not promised forever y'all. Let folk know that they're the shit and given them what they deserve whilst we're here to give it and they're here to receive and appreciate it.
