Music video: The Legend of JoJo and the "Lonely Hearts"

Music video: The Legend of JoJo and the "Lonely Hearts" | Random J Pop

Right before JoJo dropped her 4th studio album Good To Know came the music video for its second single "Lonely Hearts". Much like "Man", it's very much a homely affair. "Man" looked like it was shot in JoJo's house. "Lonley Hearts" looks like it was shot in the back garden of her house.

Music video thrifting. Gurl, do what you gotta do.

The "Lonely Hearts" video was directed by Robin Williams' daughter Zelda (Yep, she was named after the legend itself). The two have somewhat of an intertwined working history, in addition to being friends. JoJo starred in the movie 2006 movie RV, in which Robin Williams played her father, which I imagine is how she met Zelda. And JoJo's music video for "Save My Soul" was also directed by Zelda Williams; the song and video of which were dedicated to the passing of JoJo's father, who she'd also lost to addiction.

Zelda had said that her inspiration for this music video was Herb Ritts, who was a famed photographer known for shooting in black and white. He was also a director, having shot Madonna's "Cherish", Janet Jackson's "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" and Michael Jackson's "In The Closet". And those who have seen all 3 videos will know that they all share a very distinct style. That's Herb Ritts for ya. Chances are that any famous, editorial black and white photo from the 90s that you have in mind was shot by him.

I had no idea Zelda Williams was a director, so this was a nice surprise. There aren't enough female music video directors in the game.
