After what I am calling the Punani trilogy with "Ass Like That", "Moment" and "Dive"; singer, songwriter and all-round bae Victoria Monét has released a new song in collaboration with Khalid and producer SG Lewis. This is so different from her previous singles that I figured it wouldn't feature on her upcoming album, but apparently it is.
As was the case with "Ass Like That", Victoria gives us a lyric video which could easily pass as a music video. I live for effort.
"Experience" is of a very different vibe to Victoria's prior three singles, but given the criminally lukewarm mass response to each of them, it makes sense that she'd switch things up and release something with Pop crossover appeal. And you can't go wrong with a Khalid feature these days.
It's a really nice, feel good song. It's different from "Ass Like That", "Moment" and "Dive", but still in the same wheelhouse, with it having a Soul throwback vibe and having great production behind it. It certainly adds colour to the perception of what I thought her album would sound like, in the best possible way.
Victoria Monet's debut album Jaguar will finally see the light of day, and release on August 7, 2020. And I'll be reviewing it for sure. Whether I'll post it in 2020 or 2022 is another matter entirely.
