Perfume and Daichi Miura give a Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony performance tease

Perfume and Daichi Miura give a Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony performance tease | Random J Pop

So it seems that Mikiko is on her 'Fuck the Olympics' tour and is out here letting everybody know what they missed out on as a result of men who wouldn't let a bitch just do her job. A job she was more than qualified to do.

Mikiko brought the Rhizomatiks, Elevenplay 'n' dem to Music Station with Daichi Miura and Perfume for a special performance. There was no explanation of why this particular performance was put together, but we all know what this shit was.

Y'all remember the document that 'leaked' detailing the Tokyo 2021 2020 opening ceremony? Folk were so focused on Perfume being mentioned that barely anybody took notice of Daichi Miura's name being listed. So this performance featuring the two of them is pretty much a confirmation that everything in that damn document was fully legit, because why else would Mikiko go to the trouble of creating something with Perfume, Daichi, Elevenplay and the Rhizomatiks? This performance is more than likely a scaled down version of what we would've gotten for the opening ceremony.

The performance is pretty much what you would expect given who is involved. But the real surprise was Daichi Miura and Perfume dancing together to one another's songs,. AND that Perfume performed the "Polygon Wave" remix. Chile. I probably owe somebody some money. Because I swore blind that Perfume would never perform that shit.

What is going on with Perfume's outfits? Something ain't right. We've had Perfume wearing the same damn dresses for weeks on end for every performance of "Polygon Wave". Then they perform on The Masked Singer wearing outfits from Wish. Not we've got them wearing their Imaginary Museum outfits, when the "Polygon Wave" dresses (as tired as they are) would have fit this performance better. Something is going on with their style / wardrobe team.

Perfume's look just felt slightly out of step with everybody else's. Maybe that was the point. But not only was the look out of step, but so was the original mix of "Polygon Wave".

As much as I lived for Perfume performing "Polygon Gay" with all of the Pride lighting, the whole performance felt like it ground to a halt when it hit, because the vibe of the song was so different to everything else before it. I have to admit. As much as I don't like the "Polygon Wave" remix, it fit better with the vibe of Daichi Miura's "Enkan", and was a nice transition out of it and a bit of a vibe. And then it all shifted. But the whole performance was still amazing.

It was really great seeing Perfume perform with other people and give us choreo which was still in that Mikiko and Perfume movement language, but a bit more grown and with some swag. The dance segment with Daichi was so fucking clever and really shows the genius of Mikiko. The choreo was a perfect fusion of both of Daichi and Perfume's dance styles. And it also highlighted (again) that Nocchi is that bitch. She just has a different sense of rhythm to a-chan and Kashiyuka. You can see it in how she moves.

I mean...

Nocchi hits that rock | Random J Pop

Nocchi knows what she did.

The "Polygon Wave" remix is really coming for me today, because the choreo for it!? Fire. Again, Mikiko showing her mettle, by working in elements from some of Perfume's other routines. (I could see some "Edge" moments). And again, Nocchi just hit it differently. She felt like the bridge between Perfume, Elevenplay and Daichi and his dancers; a perfect balance of the sharpness and elegance of Perfume, but with the fluidity of Daichi.

And y'all who are on that train of Nakata is the only one who can produce for Perfume, Daichi Miura's "Enkan" fit them just fine musically. A song produced by Nao'ymt, who is probabaly best known for his work with Namie Amuro, having produced a fair amount of material for her albums Queen of Hip-Pop ("WoWa") and Play ("Baby Don't Cry" and "Hide & Seek").

With each performance we get of "Polygon Wave", the music video just seems more and more redundant. There truly was no point in it, if THAT mess was all we were gonna get when we got it.
