Crystal Kay sings a bit of Hikaru Utada’s “First Love”, and nothing is making sense

Crystal Kay sings a bit of Hikaru Utada’s “First Love”, and nothing is making sense | Random J Pop

Crystal is doing this YouTube thing and she’s doing it good so far. But the choices and the timeline of things is still baffling to me.

So, Crystal’s latest video is something along the lines of ‘3 of my favourite karaoke songs’. I’m sure the 2 other songs are lovely. But we’re here to talk about one of them. And that is Hikaru Utada’s “First Love”, which Crystal sings a bit of.

Crystal also touched on this topic for her Makenai Monday on February 13th, where she also sang First Love. Unrehearsed. Casually in her living room. After preparing dinner. Because bitch, if you stay ready, she ain't gotta get ready.

So, Crystal puts out a video where she talks about singing “First Love”, then sings part of it it at the end of an hour long livestream. But nobody at LDH figured to book a studio, a professional videographer, a pianist and guitarist, and have Crystal perform the song for her YouTube channel to be up in time for when Hikaru Utada’s new album album releases physically in Japan, off the back of what has been weeks of Hikaru’s name being in people’s mouth following promo for said album?

Girl. Fire the whole management and marketing team.

Crystal played herself with her cover choices for I Sing. The selections were fine. I get not wanting to do too many well known songs. But if you’re not an artist who can push big numbers, then sometimes you’ve gotta do the things that will help do that and put yourself on people’s radars. And covering a Hikaru Utada song would’ve done the latter, especially with the overlap which occurs between Hikaru and Crystal’s fanbases. And it wouldn’t have felt pandering from Crystal at all, given that she’s covered songs of Hikaru’s in the past. Also, Hikaru Utada is a known name in Japan. There’d be nothing weird about their music being covered at all. Other artists have covered Hikaru songs over the years and released them in their terrible glory.

The tail end of last year or the new year would have been an ideal time for Crystal to have re-released I Sing, with songs she’s performed on The Masked Singer Japan and a cover of a Hikaru Utada song, but no.

It’s like Crystal Kay is in her own version of WandaVision. Traipsing her career around like it ain’t dead, when it’s fully dead. And acting like everything is just funky dory. Bitch, you better snap the fuck out of it before your career is DEAD dead.
