Superfly prepares to come for the clubs and the gays with her upcoming single “Voice” | Random J Pop

Superfly is no stranger to hits, but her upcoming digital single “Voice” really sounds like it’s going for not just an Oricon chart hit, but a worldwide chart hit. And that’s not all. Shiho wants club rotation and spins from the gays from Ni-Chome to Atlanta. Because, baby. This vibe right here?

Shiho had debuted “Voice” for Superfly Online Live back in August of 2021, but she had performed an acoustic version of the song. There was nothing about the performance or arrangement of the song that led me to believe that the studio recorded version of the song would be a disco banger - which is actually really clever. “Voice” can be considered ‘old’, sure. But what we’re getting in April sounds a whole lot different from what we heard 7 months ago, to the point it will feel like a new song. And we also don’t know the production and writing history of “Voice”. Maybe it changed and went through iterations over a period of months. I’m curious to know.

Superfly and disco kinda makes sense, if you look at it as Superfly’s sound as something which chooses to move chronologically through decades, from the 60s to the 70s. But Superfly doing disco is not something I ever thought we’d get. It’s not something I even thought about. I’m not going to get my hopes up, because song snippets be doing a lot these days to make songs sound better than they are in full. And this snippet of the song could well be one part of the song which plays once and is not repeated in the song again. But let’s see how this turns out.

“Voice” releases digitally on April 4, 2022.
