Pop / dance music duo The Knocks released a new song. SURPRISE, SURPRISE. It’s a bit disco. But The Knocks have dabbled in disco before, so I won’t hold bandwagoning against them.
The Knocks are songwriters and producers. So they’re one of THOSE acts who always has artists who sing feature on their songs. And for “Slow Song”, we get Dragonette. Along with a music video which features RuPaul’s Drag Race season 10 winner Aquaria.
Disclaimer. This song might end up being a part of either your summer playlist, your sad bitch playlist or your dancing at home playlist. There have been some evenings where I’ve just sat with this song on repeat. Because I do like me a sombre groove at 9pm.
I couldn’t stand Aquaria on Drag Race until I saw her lip sync in the finale. But having followed her since her stint on the show, it wasn’t long until I saw all of the qualities that made her worthy and deserving of her win, aside from just shitting on bitches on the runway. It’s been nice to see Aquaria grow, showcase her talents, display her sense of humour, and that show that she’s not always the cold bitch that she was edited to be whilst on Drag Race. There’s nothing wrong with being a cold bitch *Points to self*. But that’s all she was made out to be on the show, despite being a whole lot more and actually very likeable.
HENNYWAY.
The Knocks are no strangers to featuring drag queens in their videos, as their 2015 music video for “Collect My Love” also featured drag queens, and fully subscribed to the queer agenda with a feature from Alex Newell. “Collect My Love” is also a great song worth checking out. Especially if “Kill the Lights” (a song that Drag Race put a lot of people on to) was your jam. Alex Newell really shoulda released a disco EP.
