Perfume have gotta stack that yen for the hiatus. Also, they have to fulfill that Reebok contract. So, Perfume are once again the faces for a Reebok collection and they look great.

It really is something to see a-chan’s journey with her body. She was always the member wearing big-ass maternity wear dresses which covered her up, compared to Nocchi and Kashiyuka who were always showing full arms and legs. And whenever Perfume did more fashion-led shoots, we always saw Kashiyuka and Nocchi showing extra skin and wearing more form fitting clothing compared to a-chan. But now, a-chan is telling the style team ‘I want my shit short and tight’ and is wearing cropped tops at every given opportunity, because ‘Watashi wa body is tea’.

I try not to read comments on Perfume videos and posts I see online, because so often they’re from men commenting on how slender and beautiful Nocchi and Kashiyuka’s bodies are. And not too long ago a whole bunch o’ people were dropping comments on a-chan’s Insta over her weight loss, which prompted her to address it on Instagram live. It’s all a mess.

I just think it’s cool a-chan seems a lot more comfortable with her body now and how this is translating into her style choices — regardless of how her body looks. She could have a body like E. Honda or a figure like Cammy. As long as she’s happy and healthy.

HENNYWAY.

Perfume make this Reebok collection look so good that it made me go on the Reebok website and take a look at some shit. I’ve not worn Rebook anything in DECADES. There was a point in time when they were one of the big three. The sneakers you’d always see people wearing were Nike, Adidas and Reebok. But then Reebok just fell off the map. So it was a surprise to see a campaign from them, even if it is a Japan only campaign. Maybe Reebok is more popular in Japan than it is anywhere else. Or maybe it’s a cultural thing, because advertisements and campaigns feel far more present and excessive in Japan than they do in America or the UK. So global companies have to keep up with that ‘When in Rome…’.

If you’re in Japan and in tune with this sorta thing, let me know.

I do think it’s a shame that Perfume’s team don’t work these sorts of partnerships into their performances, music videos and public appearances. I felt the same way about when Perfume were the faces of Levi’s Red and when they were the faces of Uniqlo Heattech — Perfume weren’t even wearing Heattech or anything Uniqlo in the damn commercial.

The only time Perfume wore Reebok outside of the campaign shoot was when they appeared on the variety show Hanadai Chidori. And I think there was a one-off performance they did where they wore Reebok sneakers, but only Eagle eyed folk would have noticed that. Because it’s not like Reebok has a sneaker style you can spot from a mile away, like Nike Dunk or Adidas Samba.

And it’s a shame. Because the Reebok collection is so 80s and has shellsuit pieces. So it would not have been a drastic difference in look for Perfume to perform in something Reebok which is styled similar to their stage outfits. Or for them to have had Reebok make a couple of stage outfits for them — similar to what we saw Adidas do for Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour.

The Perfume and high street fashion crossovers never cross over and synergise quite the ways in which they should, which is weird, because at one point in time they used to. Just look at Perfume and Natural Beauty Basic. They wore that shit for 2 music videos and for televised appearances and performances. And yet, they couldn’t even give us a performance of “Cosmic Treat” in some Reebok shellsuits?
