Crystal Kay covers Janet Jackson’s “I Get Lonely” on her CK25 Tour

A couple of worlds collided during Crystal Kay’s North American tour. But it was a collision which made so much sense — Crystal Kay covering Janet Jackson.

Crystal had covered “I Get Lonely” during Corona-san’s world tour, when she was regularly doing Instagram Live’s. So it’s awesome to see her actually perform it on stage for her own tour.

I adore that there is such a big overlap of Janet Jackson and Crystal Kay fans. Before Crystal even lifted the microphone, everybody in the crowd knew what song Crystal was about to sing and knew she was about to kill it.

The Janet and Crystal overlap is one which has always been present to me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s felt this. Crystal’s music — especially during Call Me Miss… — had a very Janet Jackson like quality to it, in how it was a pop / R&B hybrid with this really bright sound. Both had periods in their career where they were living in crop tops to show off the abs. Both rocked red hair for an album. And the biggest connection of all is Crystal having worked with Janet’s producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis for “Kirakuni”, “Itoshiihito” and “I Can’t Wait” — the latter two of which still are not available on streaming worldwide. When the rights and legalities were being worked out for “Kirakuni”, could they not have been worked out for “Itoshiihito” and “I Can’t Wait” too?

Girl. Fire the whole management, marketing and legal team.

When Crystal Kay had Jimmy Jam gatecrash her Instagram live, they both proclaimed that they would work together again and I hope that they do. Yevon knows when we’re going to get a new studio album from Crystal though. Maybe she’ll follow in Janet’s footsteps and just tour and not release any new music.
