Some of you (me included) may have been wondering what the f**k was going on with Janet's studio album Disicpline. Well, Janet's finally let the cat out of the bag...
Surely you'd think the label would want the album to do well, because a top selling album means more money for the label and a happy diva on their roster. It's a real shame, because "Feedback" could've been such a monster hit and "Rock with U" could've been that one song that shut the charts down worldwide and put Janet right back on the top. "LUV" also could've been a Summer banger, but due to no video being shot for it and there being no promotion, people didn't even know it was released.
I'm not sure what the future holds for Janet. Perhaps she'd be better off going independant. I'm sure Janet would have no trouble supporting herself financially. She is the only Jackson who still makes money after all. But if she keeps releasing flop albums, that shit could change real fast.

"We started off with “Feedback” and the label and myself haven’t quite seen eye to eye since the "Feedback" single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion. I’m trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off this album."I should've known. Especially seeing how Def Jam pulled out all of the stops for Mariah's E=MC² a good month before the album dropped. I don't get record labels sometimes. I truly don't. Why take on a multi platinum selling artist like Janet, have her record a solid album and not promote it!? The promotion for Discipline was a complete joke. There was no TV spots or interviews until the album was out. Janet's promotion for 20 Y.O was stronger than it was for Discipline, something that the first week sales also show. Virgin at least gave her that. Def Jam obviously couldn't.

Thats bullshit. "LUV" could have been huge with the right video, but obviously Def Jam doesn't give two shits about Janet.
ReplyDeleteLooks like another record label is in her future.
Why wouldn't she promote her shit herself? Do 2 or 3 videos wouldn't hurt her at all!
