Kumi Koda releases a new song and "OMG" it's actually good?! | Random J Pop

Kumi Koda put out a new single and lemme tell you...I almost choked when I heard it. Because it's good y'all. Like...actually good. Catching word that Namie was releasing her discography to Spotify must have made Kumi step that pussy up.

Kumi has released so much nonsense over the past few years, that the bar be driving its way into the centre of the Earth. But even so, I'll take this.

Small victories.

As I was listening to "OMG" I was waiting for the catch, for something to just come and fuck the whole thing up. But it's a solid song from start to finish. The beat switch towards the end is unnecessary. I don't get why Kumi keeps throwing this type of shit into her songs. It isn't a deal breaker, but a beat switch which is more in keeping with the style of the song and leaning into the Latin-eqsue vibes would have been a better direction to go in as opposed to some Trap-a-like pandering.

"OMG" is a nothing new under the Sun. Kumi has done this type of song many a time before. But, fuck it. It works for her. I won't knock her for it. And I'd much rather Kumi played it safe these days and just did what she knows works. This is pretty much all I've kinda wanted from Kumi for years;  to just hone what works and refine it to a point where she can then evolve it or move onto the next thing. All these years into her career and Kumi Koda doesn't yet have a sound, because all she does is bounce all over the place trying to chase what everybody else is doing. It's aggravating, because she is a talented woman with a good voice. A voice that could be far better than it is if she trained it and sang better songs.

I would hope for a music video for "OMG", but there's too high-a-chance of it being garbage. Because Kumi ain't on her PV game how she used to be and Avex ain't giving these hoes budgets anymore with the way their sales and popularity be free falling.

I'm fucking tired of this promo shot being constantly re-purposed for each of these singles though. Watch RE(CORD) end up with this same shot as an album cover.
