Fans have been pulling this 'SHE'S DOING A NEW ENGLISH ALBUM' thread ever since she came back with Fantôme. When she moved over to Sony, it was 'THIS WILL BE TO RELEASE HER ENGLISH AND JAPANESE ALBUMS ON THE SAME LABEL'. When she did "Face My Fears" with Skrillex it was 'SHE'S PREPPING AN ENGLISH ALBUM'. When fans realised Hikaru was living in London, it was 'TO MAKE IT EASIER TO DO AN ENGLISH ALBUM'.
Hikaru Utada has now confirmed that she has no imminent plans to record an English language album, so y'all can stop.
The reason Hikaru gave for not having plans to record an album was simple. She doesn't feel it in her to do one, which is the most Hikaru Utada of answers. I respect this answer so much because it shows she feels no obligation to do it just for the sake of doing it. Not that there'd be any label pressure, given how much Exodus and This Is The One didn't sell. So many times when Japanese artists are asked about an English album the answer is usually 'Oh, I'd love to do it one day' even when they have no damn intention of ever doing it. Hikaru was like 'I just don't have it in me'. Sometimes many of us feel obligated to do things instead of following what our heart tells us. And this also gives her music now a greater sense of weight and relief in a sense, because she's doing music the way she's doing it because she wants to do it. Not because she feels she has to, which was part of why she went on hiatus in the first place.
BUT, she did say that she would consider putting English songs on her Japanese studio albums, whether they be new songs entirely in English or an English version of a song already on the album. But again, it's if she feels it. I hope we don't get the latter. It's enough that Japanese albums are old by the time they release because half of it is singles and B-sides. I don't want a space on a tracklist taken up by an English version of a song which is on the album.

And now everybody is out in these Corona streets swearing up and down that an English version of the song exists, which it may well do. And in light of her revealing that she may include English versions of songs on her next album, maybe "Time" would be one of those songs. Although, Hikaru Utada has said in the past that there have been songs of hers which were written in English first, which she then flipped into Japanese. It's possible that was the case with "Time". Or maybe there was a version of the song where that particular line was in English and then she changed it. The Behind the scenes of Hatsukoi documentary lifted that lid on her process and showed that sometimes songs come to Hikaru in pieces or are fractured, and that she changes things a lot as she goes. Chances are somebody will ask her if an English version of "Time" exists after this.
