Flashback Friday: Mariah Carey - Never Too Far | That time Mariah gave a Disney serve

Flashback Friday: Mariah Carey - Never Too Far | That time Mariah gave a Disney serve | Random J Pop

With Mariah Carey celebrating the *cough* 30th anniversary of her music career, it's only right to dedicate this week's Flashback Friday to the Queen of Thesaurus' aka Queen of Christmas aka Marai' don't know her.

The more I think about Justice and Redemption for Glitter, the more I think 'Is it really justice if it was only the fans sending Glitter to the top of iTunes charts!?'. I say this, because whilst we say there was redemption for Glitter, the narrative was more about just saying the album topped a chart then celebrating the songs that made up the album - because none of the individual songs on the album have received their dues. We gon' get to #JusticeForLoverboy, #JusticeForLeadTheWay and #JusticeForDidntMeanToTurnYouOn and how Mariah's version was better than the original. But  first, #JusticeForNeverTooFar.

"Never Too Far" is one of Mariah's best ballads.

We love "Hero", but we are also tired of "Hero".

"Never Too Far" is so damn good that it marked the one moment in the movie which didn't suck. I honestly didn't care one bit about Dice getting shot. But when Mariah started singing this...I felt a little suttin'.

"Never Too Far" stood out on Glitter because it didn't have the contextual 80s sound that all of the other songs had, and the entire energy of the song was just so different. With its short and sweet song structure, direct lyrics of love and hope and a swelling orchestral backdrop, it sounded like a song from a Disney movie. Had Glitter been a success and Mariah hadn't pulled up to TRL with an ice cream cart, I'm almost certain Disney woulda sent crates of money to Mariah's New York penthouse to sing a lil' sumn for one of their films. Everything about "Never Too Far" was too on-brand for Disney for them to never had considered her for something after hearing it.

As has always been the case with Mariah, despite her mammoth successes, Mariah still doesn't get the credit and recognition she deserves for anything other than singing. People still don't want to take Mariah Carey's songwriting seriously, despite writing near enough all of her biggest hits. "Never Too Far" showed that Mariah was capable of doing great ballads without her partner in crime Walter Afanasieff, and that her talent wasn't tethered to Sony or her husband. But with so many people trashing Glitter, "Never Too Far" never stood a chance of being recognised for its brilliance, but there's still time to make-it-happen.mp3.

#JusticeForNeverTooFar.
