Perfume's older material is better than the bulk of their post LEVEL3 material. Period. And any of the good post LEVEL3 are album cuts, so they don't perform them on TV. Now, whilst I am here for Perfume dipping into their older stuff to give me a respite from their single of the moment so they don't run it into the ground how they did "Flash", I've long been tired of Perfume performing to the exact same versions of songs that's we've been hearing for years. They literally have somebody backstage with an iPod who is pressing play on their shit on Apple Music.
Watching Perfume perform some of their older songs can sometimes feel like watching something get sucked into a vacuum, because their energy doesn't always seem to match the song. Perfume had finally broken through into the mainstream and had two 2 albums to their name and all kinda of endorsement deals by the time "Nee" came out, but they were still young and on the upswing. So their performances were cute and energetic. But Perfume are older now. They've been there, done that, done the foot shuffle hundreds of times. They aren't going to have that same energy, and probably feel a type of way about some of these songs in a way that they didn't at first. It's another reason as to why Perfume's team need to tell Nakata to open up dem old project files and start updating and re-arranging their old shit, so it feels new and Perfume can connect to it differently in a way that shifts their energy when they have to perform it.Still. The ladies looked great. The outfits, the movement and the lighting drew all attention away from those clumpy ass "Mugen Mirai" boots. Why not a cute little purple pump tho?
