Festive Flashback Friday: Mariah Carey - Christmas Time Is In The Air Again | The Christmas classic that one day shall be

Thanksgiving is done, and we are now in Mariah season. So let the first Flashback Friday on the Christmas approach be to Mariah Thee Caroler Carey.

Now, this song has featured in a Flashback Friday before. But I don't give a fuck. I'm posting about it again. I'mma keep going on about "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again" every December of every year until it's a hit and gets the recognition it deserves as an original Mariah Christmas classic alongside "All I Want For You Is Christmas Is You".

Mariah's second Christmas album wasn't very well promoted, and unfortunately got caught in the downward trajectory that Mariah had been skating down since the post-release run of 2008's E=MC². Then when Merry Christmas II You hit, a bitch was bob-sledding. Merry Christmas II You didn't set the world alight as Mariah and her label had hoped, "Oh Santa!" didn't catch on with anybody outside of the Lambily, and it's follow-up promotional single "Auld Lang Syne (The New Year's Anthem)" became popular as a meme because of its awful music video.

All the while, the perfect Christmas song was sat there, largely unheard and not even properly released. Made a single, but with no music video, so I had to make one my damn self in the pursuit of justice. Much like "All I Want For You Is Christmas Is You", "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again" (chile, these long song titles) is so damn good and so timeless that it could be a hit in any year. And if there's one thing we've seen over the past 3 years, it's that Mariah's old shit can become hits years after they release. So hope is not lost for Mariah having a second Christmas hit and a song that goes down in history.

Mariah Carey has a Christmas special airing on Apple TV on December 4, so hopefully she'll re-introduce it to the masses. Although it seems that the big Christmas song push from Mariah this year is going to be "Oh Santa!", and with Ariana Grande featured on it, it's a guaranteed hit. So yet again, "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again" is not detined to be a Christmas hit this year.
