Music video: BoA taps into that SM Entertainment resource for “The Greatest”

BoA’s lil’ The Greatest project has been cute. Although it’s a shame that Avex didn’t push the releases more and give us some content to go along with them. If this was 2007, we would got a music video for every single one of those songs.

With all of the songs out, BoA has finally revealed the title track itself “The Greatest”, which is a brand new song, which comes with a music video. And I think it might be one of her best Japanese music releases in a LONG while. And I think I know why.

SM Entertainment are pushing this pretty hard, which is something they don’t always do with BoA’s Japanese releases. And it’s a good thing that they uploaded the music video to the official SM YouTube channel. Because if it were just Avex, nobody would be able to share or embed the damn thing. But from the looks of the video, it seems that SM’s creative team were behind it. And from the sound of the song, SM were probably responsible for that too.

It’s interesting that SM are this involved in the production of a music video and a song which is for a Japanese release. SM have never had this level of involvement with BoA’s Japanese releases before, but I think they should from here on out. BoA should have SM’s creative team take care of the videos, and have their A&R team handle the music. And just have Avex distribute it. I don’t think there’s anything more for BoA to prove in Japan. But it would be nice to see the level of growth and care that she’s started to put into her Korean releases for the past decade translate into her Japanese releases.

It makes me wonder if SM contributing in a greater capacity for “The Greatest” may be a sign of what’s to come for BoA’s future Japanese releases.
