Sheena Ringo and Nocchi perform “Hatsu K.O. Gachi” on CDTV Live! Live!

Many had wondered if Sheena Ringo and Nocchi would ever perform “Hatsu K.O. Gachi” live following the debut of the song and music video. And within days, we got just that. Sheena Ringo and Nocchi hit up CDTV Live! Live! to perform the song.

I cannot tell whether Nocchi was singing live or not. But her vocal track was different to that of the album version of the song. So either she was singing live or she had just re-recorded her vocals for playback. It’s not that big a deal, given that her mic when performing with Perfume hasn’t been on for almost 20 years. But her clearly singing live would have created a cool ‘OH’ moment for viewers who are familiar with Perfume. But the fact that she is performing a song with Sheena Ringo without the other members of Perfume is enough of a moment in and of itself.

I still can’t quite believe any of this Sheena and Nocchi shit happened in the first place.

Seeing Nocchi perform on a stage without dem other two still feels like seeing something from an alternate timeline, but it suits her. And real ones who see the vision always knew since the debut of “Perfume no Okite” and her solo moment during “Party Maker”—Nocchi just has it.

It’d be great to Sheena and Nocchi do something together again. Whether it’s for another song or just additional live performances of “Hatsu K.O. Gachi”. And I hope the experience of this is unlocking things for Nocchi. Whether it’s a desire to explore another music related solo project or exploring it within Perfume. Perfume’s next studio album should feature solo songs from each member. a-chan, Kashiyuka and Nocchi should all be given the chance to shine on their own and also get a sense of whether releasing solo material is a thread they would like to pull.
