Perfume may be in cold sleep, but that doesn’t mean Perfume Closet is closing its doors. No bitch. Because Perfume Closet is pushing some new shit for Valentine’s Day — the Chocolate Disco collection.

Valentine’s Day is a big commercial day in Japan, just as it is in many countries around the world. But Japan has a Valentine’s Day custom, which is for women to gift chocolates to men. And because of this, lots of stores will sell limited edition Valentine’s Day chocolates. And because it’s women buying them — who by default and on assumption will give more of a damn than most straight men would — the selection of chocolates is overwhelming. Hence, this Perfume Closet Chocolate Disco collection throwing it’s clumpy black boot into the ring.

Shout-outs to whomever at team Perfume Closet came up with this idea, because it’s genuinely a great one. It’s just a shame that Perfume themselves are so absent from it. But this at least gives some indication of how the Perfume Closet and Perfume brand will be made to chug along without Perfume themselves being active.

The Chocolate Disco collection includes three types of chocolates, each in partnership with different brands. Sachi Takagi — whose hook is that their chocolate flavours are all from fruits which are plants. Which I guess is…all fruits?! But, okay. Coco Kyoto — a chocolatier based in Kyoto, who pride themselves on the quality of the raw cacao they use. And Coco Chou Chou, whose chocolates are vegan and gluten free. Having an option for those who are vegan and have trash stomachs is really amazing, and a sign that real effort went into picking partners for these chocolates, to ensure no Perfume fan misses out over their vegan diet or gluten intolerances.

The chocolate disco collection also includes a mug, a ring, a tie and a sheer shopping bag — for fans who are interested in buying non-perishable goods from the collection. But if your boo is a Perfume fan, then the thing to do is just buy the whole collection. Even if you sweetie-pie has Crohn’s disease, buy them Sachi Takkagi and Coco Kyoto chocolates anyway, as souvenirs.

If you are somebody whose male partner is a Perfume fan, then you know exactly what to buy them. And if you’re a male Perfume fan who is single, then treat yo’self.

The icing on the chocolate cake would have been if we got a sexy mid-tempo remix of “Chocolate Disco”. But that ain’t happening. But we did get a new video for the song, which is a super cut comprised of the numerous “Chocolate Disco” performances Perfume had given over the years.

I am a bit sick of “Chocolate Disco”, because of just how frequently Perfume perform it. They have a strong enough discography that they don’t need to keep falling back on it, yet they always do. But that said, it is great song and one which is deserevedly beloved.
