Jimi Somewhere releases “Strings” — an ode to being in love / hypnotised by the pum-pum

Norwegian pop star Jimi Somewhere has released his new song “Strings”. And, now for the quick sales pitch. If you like Charli XCX when she’s in her pop bag, you’ll like this.

The strings in this song should be way more annoying than they actually are. But I think it works. And the production of this song is so interesting to me. Because in a song with this hyper pop-esque production style, the way the strings are chopped is how vocals would usually be chopped. But the way the strings are chopped isn’t too dissimilar to how strings samples were chopped on Hip-Hop records. I find that really cool.

Don’t be sleeping on Norway when it comes to pop. Never forget that A-ha are Norwegian. And Ina Wroldsen, the writer of Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam” is also Norwegian.
