I wasn't sure what to think of "Pink Blood", song and video at first. But I've finally settled on how I feel about them.
Underwhelmed.
The song doesn't give much more than we heard in the previews and neither does the music video. Hikaru looks great. But...that's kinda it. The whole thing felt like an Always commercial.
Hikaru Utada's music videos just aren't as exciting to me as they used to be. And I feel that the visuals from Fantôme, Hatsukoi and this current / upcoming phase all bleed into one. There's no real distinction between them. The anomaly being "Nijikan Dake no Vacance".
Fans online have speculated that certain moments in the video are in reference to other Hikaru Utada videos. The horses referencing "Passion". The camisole and standing in darkness referencing "Bokyaku". And off the back of that I thought 'Hmmm, maybe her lying in the grass references "Traveling"...'. These could be legitimate, but they seem like reaches to me.
This was a nice video, but it's not one that I'll watch again. It would have been nice if there was more choreography in this video. The moment with Hikaru and her dancers looks so good and striking, and as we'd seen from "Forevermore" Hikaru can move.
