When Capsule were set to release their first song in over 6 years "Hikari no Disco", it was preceded by a YouTube livestream of all of Capsule's albums, from 2001's High Collar Girl all the way up to 2015's Wave Runner. It was a fun moment that brought together a bunch of Nakata Yasutaka and Capsule fans. And it went down so well, that Nakata decided to do a similar thing for the remastered version of Capsule's 7th studio album Fruits Clipper, which is available on all streaming services now, or can be played on YouTube as standard.Nobody knows why Nakata decided to remaster Fruits Clipper in particular. Or if he plans to re-master and re-release any of Capsule's other albums. I mean, shit. Why does Nakata do anything!?
Listening to Capsule's albums from High Collar Girl to More More More is bittersweet. The music is still great and holds to this day. But it just makes you throw your hands up and ask 'What the fuck happened to Nakata's sound!?'. His production and approach to music was so ridiculous back then. It was bold. It was consistent. It was conceptual. And now? It's just so bland. But Nakata isn't the only one. So many producers who were next level during the early 2000s are putting out trash now. The Neptunes. Timbaland. Darkchild. All of them.
Nobody knows what Capsule's next release is going to be following "Hikari no Disco". It could be a new album. It could be a Best album. Or we could just get re-mastered versions of older albums released over the course of the next couple of years. But Capsule are giving fans SOMETHING at the moment, which is better than nothing after 6 years of silence.
It's a great time to be a Nakata Yasutaka fan, between Capsule's re-emergence, a new Kyary Pamyu Pamyu song that dropped outta nowhere and a couple of new Perfume songs set to drop in September.
