A dedicated Perfume and Nakata Yasutaka fan, who must also be a music producer, had gone out of their way to re-create Perfume’s “Mawaru Kagami” aka “Mirror Ball” from scratch, and even put vocals on it. It sounds incredibly close to the original. So if you’ve been bursting to hear a studio version of this song without reverb and occasionally faint crowd sounds, then this is worth checking out until we get to hear the full song in its official studio recorded glory on March 9th.With the skill it took to put this together, I'm sure the person responsible could probabaly produce something for Perfume that pops off. I'm fully on this ‘Perfume need to work with other producers’ train, and I ain’t never getting off of it.I’ve said how I feel about “Mawaru Kagami” already. TLDR; starts off strong, then goes downhill.
I’m tired of Perfume and these cutesy choruses which are always in similar keys, with similar chords and progressions. With “Saisei” and “Time Warp”, fine. Whatever. They were cutesy from the get go. But the chorus of “Mawaru Kagami” throws me off. because of how mood setting the intro is. Why couldn’t we just get a song with a dark electro vibe the whole way through? It's not that Nakata can't do it any more, because he did it with Capsule’s amazing “Virtual Freedom”. He’s just decided that this should be a Perfume thing, and I don’t get why.
Nakata definitely has a problem when it comes to song structures with Perfume’s songs exclusively. He truly does hate those bitches.
For those of you who are producers and music sequencers, it’d be great to hear your album mixes of “Mawaru Kagami”. I think remixing a Perfume song would make for a great official competition. There are many talented producers in the fandom who would be able to deliver great thing, and it’d keep Nakata on his toes; because that man is too comfortable.
The person who re-created “Mawaru Kagami” has also recreated a bunch of other Perfume songs. So be sure to check out their YouTube channel more. Each and every one of them is great and meticulous. In some instances you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between the originals.
