Kenshi Yonezu gets that Chainsaw Man anime money with its opening theme song, “Kick Back”

Kenshi walking out from a cloud of smoke, in a yellow T-shirt, and exaggerated muscular arms, which are proportionally much larger then they should be for somebody of his size.

Kenshi Yonezu is booking these high profile tie-ins in such a fashion, that you’d think his manager was Teruzane. He went straight from a PlayStation tie-in, to an Ultraman tie-in, to a Chainsaw Man tie-in. Crystal Kay needs to slide into Kenshi’s DMs and ask who is management team is, because she is in dire need. Them JBL commercials which don’t even feature her music ain’t cutting it.

Kenshi established very early on that he has a specific look, aesthetic and a vibe when it comes to his music videos, which is great. Especially in this fast-food age of music we’re in. And I think it’s awesome that we’re seeing this new wave of Japanese artists who are coming out of the gate with clear visual identities. Kenshi, Aimyon and Kaze Fujii all fall into this group.

But over the past couple of years, we’ve gotten to see different sides of Kenshi within his aesthetic bubble. “Pop Song” showed his playfulness, “M87” showed his tenderness (as “Canary” also did), and “Kick Back” shows his humour. This string of releases is amazing just based on the tie-in’s alone, but it also does so much for showing who Kenshi is in a way I’ve not seen from him before. He has range.

As for Chainsaw Man, I am seeing this damn show being talked about EVERYWHERE. Which is great for the show. The fact that there is so much chatter about this show, and that it is notable and visible amongst discussions about DC, Black Adam, Superman, House of the Dragon, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Black Panther is amazing. And now here’s Kenshi with the theme song.

The Chainsaw Man anime is so damn popular that it even has US outlets reporting on it, which as a result has them reporting on its Kenshi Yonezu helmed theme song.

Get money and exposure bitch.
