Rina Sawayama drops her non clothing sized related (but clothing mentioning) bop "XS"

Rina Sawayama drops her non clothing sized related (but clothing mentioning) bop "XS" | Random J Pop

Rina is right on time. 'Cos I was wallowing in how much I didn't like the music video for her last single "Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)" and how big that song should've been. The she debuts a new song on a radio show, and it's great, and my mind is no longer focused that budget green screen travesty.

Rina hit up Annie Mac's BBC1 radio and unveiled a brand new song titled "XS" from her upcoming debut album. And here's a little press ting from Rina about the song.
"XS" is a song that mocks capitalism in a sinking world. Given that we all know global climate change is accelerating and human extinction is a very real possibility within our lifetime it seemed hilarious to me that brands were still coming out with new makeup palettes every month and public figures were doing a gigantic house tour of their gated property in Calabasas in the same week as doing a 'sad about Australian wild fires' Instagram post. I mean I'm guilty of turning a blind eye too, because otherwise it makes me depressed. We’re all hypocrites because we are all capitalists, and it's a trap that I don't see us getting out of. I wanted to reflect the chaos of this post-truth climate change denying world in the metal guitar stabs that flare up like an underlying zit between the 2000s R&B beat that reminds you of a time when everything was alright.
I'm glad she mentioned that she's also a hypocrite, because gurl. I saw you in that Burberry flex the other week for their fashion show whilst barbecued Koala's were still be turning up on people's front lawns and Resident Evil was becoming a reality with the coronavirus. But as Rina also rightly said, sometimes you do have to make a decision to turn a blind eye to some of the shit that's happening, otherwise you would go crazy and just be in a constant state of feeling low that the world is just literal garbage. And we now live in a society where your existence and the life you live is determined by your social media presence. Our last Instagram post is taken to be a snapshot of the totlity of our every thought on that day and in that moment. And if we didn't Tweet it, did it even happen? And if we aren't posting about things other than serious issues, then OBVIOUSLY it means that we don't care.

It's all a bit ridiculous and everybody is out to get one another.

Anyway. Let's talk about the quality of which Rina has graced us with.

A hat trick. Three singles dropped. All fire. No misses. Rina has no respect for my wig.

"XS" is a great song and a perfect single choice at this point when the album is just around the corner. Both "STFU!" and "Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)" were great songs. But if there happened to be fans (affectionately referred to as 'Pixels'...for now, until Google serve papers) who weren't wholly feeling them and wanted more of the vibe they got on the Rina EP, then they've got that with "XS". It sounds like a Pop song straight out of the early 2000s, just as "Take Me As I am" did. And the whilst the nu-metal flair that comes in every so often was initially jarring (which according to Rina was the intention), I got used to it. And it makes for a nice set-up into "STFU!" which is sequenced after "XS" on the album.

I really like that Rina's songs are always commentaries on the world as she sees it, packaged in a catchy Pop song. Creating a good, catchy Pop record with a message behind it isn't always easy. But Rina has a knack for it and has shown that it's no fluke for her, given that she's consistently done it since "Where U Are".

I would say that it'd be great for "XS" to get a music video. But after that mess we got for "Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)", I'm fine with going without.

Rina's debut album releases on April 17th. Rina will also be embarking on a world tour titled the Dynasty tour, which kicks off in Los Angeles on April 24th
