Chloe x Halle and the Parkwood posse have been setting the bar for performances and productions over the course of the past 3 months. They be pulling surprises and stunts so damn consistently that I've long been at the point of just laying my wig on my doorstep for these bitches to take. And take my wig they did with their MTV 2020 VMA performance.
After Chloe x Halle beat fans within an inch of their lives with performances of "Do It" like it's the only song in their catalog, and teasing them about it, the fandom were probably expecting "Do It" for the 109th time. But just a few days ago, Chloe x Halle delivered their first performance of their Ungodly Hour cut "Busy Boy" (needs to be a single) for the US Open. Slap one. And then they hit up the VMA's and performed the album title cut, which is a widely considered album favourite for the VMA's. Perfect timing, given that "Ungodly Hour" song is produced by Disclosure, who also released their new album last Friday.
This performance was everything. The looks (styling by Zerina Akers), the energy, the lasers, the lighting (creative direction by Andrew Makadsi). And it was beautifully shot too, thanks to C Prinz, who also directed Chloe x Halle's music videos for "Do It" and "Forgive Me". The whole thing had such a film like quality and a level of finesse to it that it could be the damn music video for "Ungodly Hour".
The nerve of MTV to only have Chloe x Halle perform for the pre-show, when they shat on every bitch that performed for the main show. And for them to not walk away with a VMA!? Chile, MTV didn't even deserve this performance.
