Perfume reveal the cover art for their upcoming single "Time Warp"

Perfume have revealed the single covers for their upcoming single "Time Warp", and as to be expected, they feature the same outfits and set from the promo shot we got a couple of weeks ago. The "Mugenmirai" boots are still trash, but you can only see Nocchi wearing them in one of the covers, and the blurring in the other draws attention away from them. Kind of.

As is customary for Perfume and their insane visual consistency, they will 100% be sporting these looks in the music video and be dancing on, or around that cool set which gives me JPN vibes. And their stylist is making variations of those outfits in multiple colours for Perfume's televised performances as we speak.

It's going to be interesting to see if the blurring (which I'm assuming is the time warping) will be a visual component in the music video which plays off of the choreography, and what the deal is with the random guy on the regular edition of the cover. I think it's Nakata from the past looking at Perfume in the present and wondering what the fuck happened to the bangers.

Perfume's music videos haven't been as great as they used to be. Where their videos were once really thoughtful, considered and often cutting edge, now they just feel basic and samey. The last Perfume music video that I thought was great was "Sweet Refrain". "If You Wanna" looked cool, but it wasn't an interesting, re-watchable music video. And whilst Perfume have given us music videos in the past which were literally just extended commercials ("Nee", "Natural ni Koishite") they were at least good music videos. "Future Pop" was not, as cool as the visuals were.

My expectations for Perfume's music is in the fucking gutter at this point, so I'm not expecting fire. But I at the every least would like for the music video to be great. I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment.

Perfume will be released on September 16th, 2020.
