Crystal Kay does a new shoot, and gives us Vogue magazine cover contenders

Crystal Kay has had a toe in a bag over the past couple of months, with a great (but not that great, 'cos a bitch didn't win) stint on The Masked Singer Japan, three digital singles dropping within weeks of each other, a cheque from JBL, and gigs over the holidays. And now Crystal has decided to indulge in a little creative side project by featuring in a photoshoot. There is no campaign or anything tied to this shoot. Crystal just did it for fun. And it was kind of a waste, because these shots really shoulda been for something.

These shots would have made for great Best album covers, but they also would've looked great on Vogue magazine.

Crystal Kay has always been fine as hell and photogenic. And the fact that she has not graced more magazine covers, billboards, commercials or bagged gigs as an ambassador for fashion brands and high street chains is so bizarre to me. Like, not even a Uniqlo bag. Bitch. Even MiChi got a Uniqlo bag.

I want to say that it's low key racism, which it could very well be. But her trash team is the biggest culprit here. If I was Crystal Kay's manager and I saw these shots, I'd be shopping them the fuck around. How are you gonna let your artist do a shoot, look this good and not feel the compulsion to get her on a magazine cover, in shop windows or on a giant billboard at Shibuya Scramble?

Girl. Fire the whole management and marketing team.

As for the photographer, Reylia Slaby; Crystal needs to keep her on deck as one of her go to photographers for single and album covers. Crystal Kay had a pretty clear and consistent look and creative direction from Almost Seventeen onward, which just fell to the wayside after Color Change!. Now's as good a time as any for a brand reset, and for Crystal to think about what she wants her visual identity to be, because it's been absolutely nothing for the past decade.

Reylia posted about the experience of shooting with Crystal on her website. And I hope this is the start of a long running collaboration.

Crystal also needs to update her social media and streaming profiles with these shots. Because I am beyond sick of this photo.
