Perfume get more Panasonic money, and show off a bit of the “Spinning World” music video | Random J Pop

The last single to release before Perfume’s 7th studio album Plasma releases will be “Spinning World”. I thought Perfume would just throw the song out with no product tie-in. But of course the song has a tie-in, as all of Perfume’s singles do these days. I don’t know what I was thinking.

Perfume have once again teamed with up Panasonic, this time for Bluetooth earphones - the model of which I believe come bundled with the limited editions of Plasma. Earphones are a unusual and unique product to bundle with an album, but a cool one. Because a bitch always needs some earphones.

Panasonic have hit up Perfume for their TV’s, their washing machines, and now earphones. We should play ‘Guess the appliance Perfume are gonna put a song to next for album number 8’. Crystal Kay’s team need to take notes. THIS is how you do a tie-in with audio products. JBL be sending Crystal Kay Bluetooth speakers and putting her in commercials without her own music. It’s foolery.

HENNYWAY.

As part of this Panasonic tie-in, we get a cute little feature which shows us clips of the “Spinning World” music video, which is pretty much the album cover concept in motion, as “1mm” was for LEVEL3. And it looks pretty cool.

The “Spinning World” music video looks like it’s gonna be good. Although, it does look like the music video is basically gonna be be a long form commercial for the earphones. Some of the shots were clearly shot specifically for this feature. But it looks as though Perfume will be wearing the earphones for large chunks of the video.

I mean... It makes sense, as the song is a tie-in, and they want to push fans to buy the limited edition versions of their albums which come with the earphones. And lets be real. Several of Perfume’s music videos have essentially been long form commercials. “Secret Secret”, “Nee”, “Natural ni Koishite”, “Pick Me Up”, “Everyday” (also a Panasonic tie-in), “Future Pop”. Even “Polygon Wave”, which ended up being a Tesla commercial despite the tie-in for the song not being Tesla at all. In light of this, it wouldn’t surprise me if the music video for “Spinning World” was directed by Kodama Yuichi, who directed all of the aforementioned music videos, except “Everyday”. He seems to be Perfume’s go to for tie-in music videos. But a part of me feels that it could be Kazuaki Seki, who (as was the case with LEVEL3) shot the album cover and the “1mm” music video.

I’ll reserve full judgement on the video itself until I’ve actually watched the damn thing. I couldn’t care less if the music video ends up being a 4 minute commercial. That never stopped me liking any of Perfume's other music video which were. As long as its good. And at the very least the video will have some form of narrative, given that Perfume have wind up toy gears in their backs.

I find it kinda cool how what seemed to be such a disconnected visual from the album title, has managed to be part of a concept which has given us great album covers and what could be a pretty interesting music video.
