“Cuff It” is beloved. And rightly so. It was an instant favourite for many upon listening to Renaissance for the first time and it truly is just a great song. It’s a shame Beyoncé didn't push it properly as a single or give it a music video, but that’s a whole ‘nother post. The Fatback Band’s “I Found Lovin’” was a song I always adored growing up. (People in my family always found it weird how I always liked the old shit adults listened to). Everything about it is just so feel-good. It really has become my theme song for a good mood over the years. And even when I’m not feeling all that great, hearing it is always able to lift me a lil’ bit. And “Cuff It” is a song with a very similar energy.
Where-as my first “Cuff It” mashup was for the runways, the high energy lip syncs and the girls who be high on Kool-Aid powder. This one is a whole lot slower and less energetic than the original, which makes it perfect for the elder aunties and uncles to step to at the family functions. And how could I resist throwing in a bit of Cameo’s “Candy”. Seeing as Black folk be doing that dance to the original version of “Cuff It” anyway.
