LIZ has been out here releasing music since 2013, and only in 2019 did we get a full length debut album.
A madness.
LIZ's debut album Planet Y2K was a solid pop album. But it omitted a whole bunch of really good songs that she had released over the years. Songs which were clearly intended to be part of what at the time seemed like an imminent album release. But I can't blame LIZ for leaving these songs off, because they were years old. And naturally as time goes on and an album goes unreleased, you just end up working on more and more stuff.
So I figured I'd put together what a LIZ album would have sounded like if it were released around 2018 and featured some of the older songs, so as the pop perfection that is the Sophie produced "When I Rule the World".
As is often the case with artists who find themselves in musical limbo because of record label foolery, there are a bunch of LIZ tracks which have surfaced through leaks and live performances, but have never been released and therefore are not on streaming platforms. And with many of these songs being recorded when LIZ was signed to a different label, there's no chance of them ever seeing the light of day. Especially those which were produced by Sophie; in particular "Sunscreen". A song that LIZ fans stay harassing her to release, to the point that it's become an inside joke within her fanbase.
So, I present to you, Starlight. The title? Dunno. Just felt right based on the shot for the cover.
LIZ has a treasure trove of great songs that she's released over the years. So if you liked her debut album Planet Y2K and you like what you hear from Starlight, then be sure to fall into the LIZ rabbit hole.
