Perfume Closet is back for its 7th collection, with throwbacks to “Spending All My Time” and “Cling Cling”

It’s that time of year y’all. Perfume want that yen. Fresh off the back of fans shelling out for Plasma tour tickets, and merch, Perfume want you to shell out for their little clothing collection too.

Perfume’s 7th Perfume Closet collection features designs inspired by the looks they wore on the covers and in the music videos for “Flow”, “Time Warp”, “Cling Cling” and “Spending All My Time”. And by looking at the shots of the looks, it’s very easy to tell which is which - something I have to commend Perfume’s outfit designers for. The shit be ugly 90% of the time, but it’s easy to distinguish which look is tied to which song, album or tour, which is vital for things like this.

The “Spending All My Time” outfits were very different for Perfume at the time, and remain a standout to this day, due to them looking far more formal then their usual outfits, looking more like uniforms, and also doing away with the set Kashiyuka in a short skirt, Nocchi in shorts and a-chan in an A-line dress deal, by putting all three of them in the same length skirt, with the only detail difference being the waists, collars and shoulders. So it’s kinda cool to see the outfits reimagined in this collection, featuring more bigger variations. But the “Spending All My Time” outfits are also notable for marking one of the few (possibly only) instances where Perfume shot a single cover and a music video in a look which they didn’t perform the song in.

What a difference a colour way can make. Because the outfits in the image above and the outfits in the image at the very top of this post are the same outfits, and it took me a second to realise it. A difference in colour way and styling can truly change a look. Even something as simple as a-chan being shot from the side, and Kashiyuka having her jacket around the waist make the outfits look completely different and far more fashionable. The outfits looks terrible in the “Cling Cling” colours, but look great in the black. I would wholeheartedly wear Nocchi’s outfit in black.

As time goes on, I get the point of this collection more and more. The name says it all. This is Perfume’s closet. So it features a mix of things that fans see them in when they’re in Perfume mode on and off stage.  And Perfume Closet is a great way for fans to get a hold of official outfits for their cosplays and dance videos. Although Perfume fans have long been making their own shit, and in some cases having it look better than Perfume’s.

Whilst the concept of Perfume Closet is cool. I still feel that it’s far too expensive for how cheap some of it looks. The “Spending All My Time” and “Flow” pieces all look cheap as hell. But fans are clearly buying it, so good for Perfume. Get money bitch.
